An immersive installation by Megan Mosholder transforming downtown Macon’s arcH to honor the city’s unparalleled contribution to the American musical landscape.

Fusing form and dynamic sensory elements, Echoes of Sound is a site-specific installation featuring sixteen towering 12-foot wooden posts arranged to create a rhythmic visual composition echoing the city’s musical heartbeat. Each post is wrapped in vibrant pink, iridescent cords, symbolizing the city’s deep and diverse musical heritage—spanning blues, soul, rock, gospel, and beyond–developed by legends such as Little Richard, Otis Redding, and the Allman Brothers Band. These interwoven strands serve as dynamic representations of Macon’s artistic legacy and the fusion of culture that has shaped the city into a creative epicenter.

Suspended between the posts, cascading curtains of iridescent, faceted beads capture and refract light, producing kaleidoscopic patterns that evoke the transformative power of music. The installation is also augmented with dynamic UV-like light strips pulsing with an ever-changing rhythm, shifting in intensity and tone throughout the day and night. This luminous choreography highlights the woven texture of the cords, creating an interplay of shadow and light, and an evolving visual experience that mirrors music’s fluidity.

The installation’s debut during the 43rd Annual Macon Cherry Blossom Festival further enhances its experience, aligning with the festival’s celebration of nature, culture, and community. This synergy underscores the profound intersection of art and music with the natural world, providing visitors with a multi-dimensional experience that bridges history with contemporary artistic expression, and a beacon for imaging Macon’s creative future.

About Megan Mosholder

c/o Megan Mosholder

Artist Megan, reacts to the social-political landscape through site-responsive installations. Her three-dimensional drawings, often enhanced by light, emphasize obscured elements within recognizable places correlating symbolism with lived experience.

A Savannah College of Art and Design graduate with an MFA in painting, Megan boasts many awards from institutions such as the Foundation for Contemporary Arts and the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences. She is commissioned by leading corporations including the Microsoft Art Collection and included in public art programs, museum exhibitions, and art fairs. Interest in her installations has led to various international commissions, evidenced by her inclusion within the European Cultural Centre's 2022 Personal Structures exhibition presented during the 59th Venice Biennale and as a resident artist in Sydney, Australia, where she built an art installation at Delmar Gallery (2017). It is evident from Megan's portfolio that site-specific work can leave a lasting impression on the viewer.

Her large-scale installations also express her tenacity. Following a September 2018 car accident where the gas tank ruptured and ignited, trapping her inside, she endured burns to over sixty percent of her body. While the event left indelible marks, it also provided new heights for her to reach.

Megan continues to create installations that relay her devotion to her work and the communities she engages. Currently, she lives and works in Atlanta, GA at the Goat Farm Art Center and has worked as a full-time professional artist for thirteen years.
